Toddler Talk Thursday & Day 131. 234 Days Left.

It’s no surprise kids’ say the funniest things, and what comes out of the mouth’s of toddlers is often hysterical and sometimes downright pee your pants funny! When what they say isn’t humorous, their words can melt your heart. To help make sure I never forget these little toddler quips and because they make me smile, I have decided to share them in a weekly post called “Toddler Talk Thursday.”

Naptime…

Mommy: ”Addison, Jackson it is time to get ready for a nap. Come on Addison, go potty and get in bed.”

Addison: “But mommy I am still so hungry.”

Mommy: “Come on Addison, it's nap time.”

Addison: “But I AM so starving!” one of her favorite ways to delay a nap

Mommy: “How can you be so starving? You had a bowl of cereal, two pancakes, two pieces of bacon, a bowl of grapes & blueberries and two cups of chocolate milk; there is no way you are hungry.”

Addison: “Fine. I’m not so hungry but my butt is!”

Mommy: “Well your butt will just have to get in bed and stay hungry.”

Little smart ass

While attempting to get ready for today’s playdate…

Mommy: ”Addison it's time to get dressed; the boys will be here soon.” I am sure you all have seen enough pictures of Addison and are aware she ONLY wears clothes when necessary… meaning: when we leave the house.

Addison: “No. I am not wearing clothes! I want to stay so naked!”

Mommy: “Come on Addison." my long exhausted mommy whine
"Please don’t do this. Let’s get dressed.”

Addison: “No! I don’t need clothes.”

Mommy: “Yes Addison, you have to wear clothes when we have company. The boys don’t want to see you so naked.”

Addison: “Yes! Yes they do! The boys will like me so naked.”

Mommy: "That’s just great Addison… Sure daddy will love to hear that. Why don’t you let me get through one phase at a time."

Boys. Naked. Bad!

While sitting in the room playing…

Addison: “Up butt coconut, up your butt with a coconut.” one of Addison’s favorite non-mommy approved songs that Auntie M so kindly taught her.

Addison: “Up butt coconut up, your butt with a coconut.” repeat five more times.

Mommy: “Ok Addison, that is enough. Thank you.”

Addison: ”But mommy up butt coconut, up your butt with a coconut is my favorite song.” she just had to get it out one more time.

Mommy: “It is a silly song. Let’s sing something different.”

Addison: “What mommy?”

Jackson: “up butt” and he speaks

Addison: Laughing hysterically “Jackson just said up butt!” more laughing… “Up butt coconut, up your butt with a coconut.”

Jackson: “up butt”

both in hysterics

Mommy leaving the room to go call Auntie M…

While I was in the kitchen unloading & loading the dishwasher Addison was playing with her Play-doh ice cream factory…

Addison: "ahhh. ugh. G-eeee-T!" various frustrated shrieks and screams.

Mommy: ”Addison what is wrong over there?”

Addison: “I can’t get my Toy Story friends to sit up. You do it!”

Mommy: “How do you ask.”

Addison: “Mommy, may you please make all these Toy Story friends sit. It’s Bullseye’s birthday party.”

Mommy: “There- is that better?” followed by her little laughs of approval.

Addison: “Bullseye’s cake is all done. I going to get plates and the pa-ta-bo (play-doh) knife. You get the candle and take the picture.”

Addison gets everything set-up for Bullseye’s party.

Mommy: “Are you ready?”

Addison: “No mommy- I need my party dress on!” a dress she picked-out while at Cracker Barrel with Pop-Pop and Gredda.

Mommy: “Ok… now is everyone ready?”

Addison: “No you have to light the candle!”

Mommy: “1-2-3 blow out the candle!”

Addison: “Nooooo! Say blow out the candle Bullseye!”

Mommy: “1-2-3 blow out the candle BULLSEYE!”

Addison: “No mommy- don’t take the picture! Get Jackson he is not dressed! He can’t wear his jammies to Bullseye’s party! Get him! Jackson go!”
Clearly jammies are not appropriate birthday attire.

While watching Dinosaur Train...

Addison: “Mommy may we please have a goldfish?” we have been working on manors lately.

Mommy: ”I think we have enough pets.”

Addison: ”No. We don’t.”

Mommy: “Addison, we have three cats and three dogs, that makes six. Six pets are more than enough for mommy.”

Addison: “But we don’t have a goldfish.”

Mommy: “Well you have three jellyfish in your room.” A Discovery Kids Jellyfish tank; they look real the kids have no idea they are not.

Addison: “We can put the goldfish in with the jellyfish.”

Mommy: “They won’t all fit. Besides, jellyfish eat goldfish.”

Seconds later…

Addison: “Mommy, I wish I were a dinosaur so I could eat goldfish.”

Mommy: “Well, you can eat other fish while being Addison and not a dinosaur. Mommy makes fish all the time and it is very good.”

Addison: thinking of a way out of this one… “No mommy. That is yuck. I don’t want to be a dinosaur so I never eat my goldfish! He is my friend!”

Mommy: thinking to myself: we are so NOT getting a fucking goldfish!

Mommy: ”Addison, please pick up your shoes and put them away.”

Addison: “Why?”

Mommy: “I don’t want them in the hallway.”

Addison: “Why?”

Mommy: “Because someone could trip over them and fall.”

Addison: “Why?”

Mommy: “Because you left them in the hallway.”

Addison: “Why?”

Mommy: “I don’t know why you left them there. Just go get them and put them away. NOW!”

Addison: “Why?”

Mommy: “Because I said so. That’s why!”

Later that afternoon…

Addison: “Mommy I want to watch Bubble Guppies. Put it on please.”

Mommy: “Addison, mommy doesn’t want to watch that again. We have been watching Bubble Guppies for three days.”

Addison: “But NOOOOOOO! I love Bubble Guppies! It’s my favorite show!”

Mommy: “But not mommies.”

Addison: “Yes huh.”

Mommy: “And why is that?”

Addison: “Because I said so. That’s why!”

After hearing a commercial for Egg-land’s Best eggs…

Addison: “Mommy I want some Egg-land’s best eggs.”

Mommy: “I don’t have those but we SunnyFarm eggs.”

Addison: ”Noooo!” (as she is inspecting the eggs for the official EB stamp) ”Egg-land’s best because they are the best!”

Mommy: “Okay- why don’t you go and find your sippy cup and I will get them started. You can come scramble them.” (I crack the eggs and dispose the evidence of my lie egg shells as quickly as possible)

Addison: (while eating her scrambled eggs) “See mommy the Egg-land eggs are the best.”

She devoured two eggs. Most mornings I am lucky if she will take two bites.
She even helped Jackson with his.

Addison has her first pen-pal. She woke up at 7am this morning ready to color her new friend a picture. While Addison was busy coloring away...

Jackson decided he wanted to help…

Mommy: "Addison you have to share with Jackson. He wants to color with you."

Addison: "I don’t want to share. I don’t want him to help. I want to make Emma a picture all beside myself."

Mommy: "It is nice to share. Jackson loves you and would like to help."

Addison: "But I don’t love Jackson. He bothers me."

Mommy: "That is not very nice to say. Jackson is your baby brother you should love him. He loves you very much."

Addison: "Ok, I will love him if you go get him his own coloring book."

Later this afternoon while getting ready for a nap...

Addison: "Jackson you love me so I am sleeping in your bed with you."

Addison: “ Mommy I am a cat. see?” as she is licking the top of her hand.

Mommy: ”Oh Addison, don’t do that!”

Addison: “Why? I said I am a cat!”
yelling at mommy for not realizing she is a cat.

Mommy: “You are licking your hand; it is gross.”

Addison: “No it’s not gross. I am cleaning myself like a cat.”

Mommy: “But you are not a cat you are a little girl.”

Few minutes later she comes back into the kitchen…

Addison: “See mommy, I am a cat!”

Clearly mommy was wrong. She is a cat. Not a little girl.
I did not have the heart to remind her they are devil horns she is wearing. fitting.

While reading a story in the Big Brown Chair...

Addison: Mommy why do we talk to God?

Mommy: We talk to God to thank him for everything he has giving us like you, Jackson, mommy, daddy and all our family and friends.

Addison: Like my Toy Story friends?

Mommy: Well, you can thank God for giving you mommy and daddy who buy your Toy Story Friends.

Addison: 'En what else do you say?

Mommy: We ask God for forgiveness.

Addison: What’s or-given-ness?

Mommy: forgiveness. When we tell God we are sorry for something naughty we have done.

Addison: Like when I hit Jackson?

Mommy: Exactly, like when you hit Jackson.

Addison: (thinking)… So I don’t have to tell you when I hit Jackson I tell God?

Mommy: Well yes and no. You have to tell mommy but you can also tell God.

Addison: But Mommy you yell at me and God doesn’t.

Mommy: “Sonofabitch!”
As I stepped in a puddle of what could only be dog pee.

Addison: “*long dramatic gasp* Mommy, you don’t ever say that again- understand me!”

Why she would be so concerned with my choice of words when I have spouted so much worse—not my proudest moments…

Mommy: “You are right Addison. Mommy is sorry that is a very bad word.”

Twenty minutes later...

Addison: “Sonofabitch!” well, at least she used it correctly.

She and Jackson were fighting over a cardboard box house—Jackson won…
