Toddler Talk Thursday & Day 130. 235 Days Left.

It’s no surprise kids’ say the funniest things, and what comes out of the mouth’s of toddlers is often hysterical and sometimes downright pee your pants funny! When what they say isn’t humorous, their words can melt your heart. To help make sure I never forget these little toddler quips and because they make me smile, I have decided to share them in a weekly post called “Toddler Talk Thursday.”

While attempting to get ready for today’s playdate…

Mommy: ”Addison it's time to get dressed; the boys will be here soon.” I am sure you all have seen enough pictures of Addison and are aware she ONLY wears clothes when necessary… meaning: when we leave the house.

Addison: “No. I am not wearing clothes! I want to stay so naked!”

Mommy: “Come on Addison." my long exhausted mommy whine
"Please don’t do this. Let’s get dressed.”

Addison: “No! I don’t need clothes.”

Mommy: “Yes Addison, you have to wear clothes when we have company. The boys don’t want to see you so naked.”

Addison: “Yes! Yes they do! The boys will like me so naked.”

Mommy: "That’s just great Addison… Sure daddy will love to hear that. Why don’t you let me get through one phase at a time."

Boys. Naked. Bad!

What are your toddlers saying?

Friends with benefits & Day 127. 238 Days left.

What a wonderful few days we have had!

Friday and Saturday my bestie was in town with her adorable man baby. We spent a few hours together on Friday and the entire afternoon Saturday. It is amazing, though we are so many miles apart, the moment we are together, we pick up exactly where we left off.

Two perfect days... but there is a shadow on those otherwise perfect days; yet again, I have to say goodbye to my bestie. She is my life-long friend and will always be a strong presence in my life, no matter the number of miles between us.

Today, I had a friend over with her two boys (come to find out they are the same age as my kiddos) for a playdate. I very much enjoyed myself... watching our children play and catching up after more than 18 years. Amazing!

Days like these make me realize how lucky I am to have met the women that I have met. These incredible women who have made me realize how remarkable we truly are, women who are mothers, who love themselves and love their kids (even on the bad days!), women that have supported themselves, their husbands, their children and their friends.

It is so important (especially with the isolation that is a part of being a stay-at-home mom) that I surround myself with women who rally around me, help me and support me. They are the reason I have not gone entirely insane.

Thank you ladies. I cherish you all.

The mom who never called & Day 119. 246 Days Left.

A few months ago, at our mall’s indoor playground, I met a woman who, it turned out, lives almost directly behind us. Deena has two little boys; the oldest a few months older than Addison (he is already four) and the youngest is only a couple of weeks younger than Jackson. She and her husband had only moved to the area recently, and we were both glad to meet another stay-at-home mom in the neighborhood.

While our kids played, we talked about life as a stay-at-home mom, schools and pediatricians and all the other stuff moms are required to discuss on their first meeting. Actually, her almost two year old played; my almost two year old ran around with his finger up his nose and attempted to pinch, bite, kick, body-slam and otherwise tackle her little boy the entire time. I was mortified and apologetic and mumbled every few minutes about how he wasn't sleeping well lately, we are working on teaching him to play nice, or some other lame excuse. Deena was completely gracious, of course. We traded phone numbers and emails then went back to our respective houses. I hoped my new friend would want to get together again with That Very Loud Family That Is Raising a Rowdy Boy.

I called Deena a couple of weeks later with the hopes we could meet up at a Latte Fun; a coffee house with a play place. Perfect for toddlers and even more perfect for moms to sip coffee and play catch-up. I have never been and wanted to get there during the week. Even more perfect, I had another mama to go with!

A few days passed and I did not hear back. I waited a week before sending a “how are things going” email. More days passed. Nothing. I checked my email’s spam folder. Nothing.

No return email. No return phone call.

Not wanting to seem too desperate, I let the months pass but started to worry a bit… Did she get into a car accident on the way home? Did something serious happen to her, her husband or godforbid one of her boys? Was their a family emergency that required them to suddenly move back to Indiana? Something had to be terribly wrong- right?

Last week I decided to make one final attempt. I sent an “I have not heard from you, hope everything is well” email. One week to the day, NOTHING!

Surely my one little monster boy could not have scared off a woman with two toddler boys… right? Addison and her four year old played so well together... pity.

Perhaps there is a reason why the 'Sankey clan' is only invited to play-dates once every couple of months…

Day 119

Jackson being entirely too quiet and the sound of porcelain rattling can only mean one thing…
Addison left the bathroom door open. Again.

Lets Play! & Day 73. 292 Days Left.

Today I took the kids to my oldest friend’s house for a playdate with her daughter.

The age difference between Bina and Addison is only 6 months. From the very first moment they just connected; much like Fluff and me. I have known Fluff for 26 years… WOW! That really dates us… we were in the same Kindergarten class and became inseparable. How amazing it is to watch our children grow together.

What I love about playdates is that the kids develop relationships along with a strong sense of self and they learn important concepts like sharing. What I love most about playdates is that I get to engage in adult conversations with a mommy who understands everything I am experiencing. Also, because Fluff and I have been close for so many years the conversation is easy, comfortable, enjoyable… effortless.

The girls just love one another but Fluff recently has added a new member to our growing playgroup and needed some time before I threw Addison and Jackson back in her face. Her daughter Bella is 2 ½ months and growing fast. Poor Jackson is going to be so out numbered.

Today was a great success; Jackson did not break anything.
Just a little mishap with markers and a table of water which made for great splashing fun!
