The day that keeps on giving

This is very rare… two posts in one day. I am typically lucky if I fit one in.

Wondering what could possibly be so important that it warrants two posts in a day?

Well, it all began last night...

10:45pm: I am exhausted and fed up enough I shut the kiddos TV off. (yes, I am the mom who lets her kids fall asleep with the TV on. Go ahead judge me. I do.)

Around 11:00pm: (the last I looked at the clock) the hubby and I feel asleep lying on the nursery floor. Probably long before the kiddos because just before I shut off the TV, they were showing no signs of going to sleep.

12:00am: I wake up, body aching from sleeping on the nursery floor, mumble a couple of swears words under my breath as I try to pry my fat ass off the floor. I wake the hubby doing so. Jackson is soundly sleeping. Addison stirring. We creep out of the room so not to make any noise.

1:15am: finally we lay down in bed.

2:30am: Addison wakes crying. Take her potty and settle her in between the hubby and me.

4:00am: Jackson wakes crying. Change his diaper and settle him in between the hubby, Addison, me and a dog or two.

5:30am: Hubby’s alarm goes off.

6:00am: wake to the hubby getting ready for work- he is late and being excessively noisey.

6:15am: wake to the hubby loudly shouting “No! Jackson!”

6:30am: force my ass out of bed.

The day greeted me with exhaustion. Poured my first of many cups of coffee and turned my "off duty" sign to “on”.

Looking forward to naptime- which for Jackson thankfully came early today- I put both the kids in bed and settled down in their room waiting for them to fall asleep. Jackson did with in minutes. Addison, never did. She woke Jackson within an hour and started dozing herself. My thought: she sure as hell not taking a nap if I can’t; especially after waking her brother so soon. I woke her and decided we would take the dogs for their walk than have lunch.

Made lunch, Jackson devoured two bowls of pasta. Addison took two bites and with that said ”I am not eating, I am not hungry.” Not in the mood to play games, I told her she was sitting at the table until her lunch was finished. She did just that… well, until she fell asleep, at 5pm.
I figured I would leave her and wake her for dinner. A few short minutes later I hear “I am not hungry mommy. I am not eating. I am mad at you!” She picked up exactly where she left off.

I told her to go potty. While doing so I started the potatoes for dinner. When a few minutes passed and I did not hear her call for me, I decided to check. She was peeing with the toilet lid down and Jackson standing on the lid behind her. I stood there briefly, in amazement, turned around and walked out to laugh… which is a good thing because laughing kept me from completely loosing it. (I have come to understand what it really means)

I went back into the bathroom; asked what the hell she was doing. “Oh, I so sorry mommy. I don’t know.” Clearly half asleep and no way to get her to stop midstream, I place towels around to catch the rest off the run off. When she finished, I throw her in the shower and run out to grab something to clean the pee from around, behind, along side, the lid and between the seat of the toilet. Upon returning this time, I find Jackson in the shower, completely dressed, with her.
I dry them, put Jackson in a dry diaper and tell Addison to put on new unddies. Deposit the kids on the living room floor, and get back to making dinner.

Just then I hear a sound. A sound I recognized immediately. Run out to the living room to find Jackson pulling out our very extensive DVD collection.

As I am cleaning up yet another mess and hoping dinner is not completely burnt, the hubby walks through the door. At this point I am a very cranky mom… I turn to him “the next time you decide to wash the blender/ food processor blade, could you be so kind not to leave the blade facing up, so that I may avoid another prick.”

Oh and I woke up with a huge zit on my chin. La-dee-fucking-da!

Embracing the “Good Enough" & Day 110. 255 Days Left

After years of planning, conceiving and raising children, I realize that I forgot a little something along the way... me.

When we conceived our first I was ecstatic, certain that everything was going to be, well.... PERFECT. The wheels started to fall off of the bus when I was pregnant, I was sick, I was working, fat, a little bit nuts and every bit exhausted. NOT the magical picture that had been painted to me by friends, family and society.

Once our daughter, Addison, arrived things only got worse. I couldn't breastfeed, she didn't sleep, she had colic, I was a little depressed- feeling alone and isolated and it was affecting both me and the hubby. I felt like a failure. This mom thing was a lot more difficult than anyone let on. The hubby was amazing every step of the way and we managed to get through- together.

Then along came Jackson, a "happy coincidence." The pregnancy plunged me back into the depths of prenatal depression and high risk prenatal care (precaution after my pregnancy with Addison). I am not sure that my body is meant for pregnancy and I know my marriage sure isn't!

Every day that went by after Jackson was born was a lesson in coping! I had so many struggles along the way and most of those struggles were and are tied to my need to be the "perfect" mother... what society tells me to be: You have to breastfeed (which I didn’t do with either Addison or Jackson *gasps*) because obviously formula is purely toxic, you simply MUST NOT co-sleep (which I did and continue to do even now that Addison is almost four and Jackson two), don't dare fulfill YOURSELF it is all about the kids, eat all organic, put your kids in preschool, don't put your kids in preschool, let them graze all day, No, no feed them three meals and two snacks.... the list goes on and on…

My life as a stay-at-home mom has took on a life of its own… about the kids and for the kids. ALL. DAY. EVERY. DAY. Some days are exhausting, others are amazing but the perfect day never really existed.

After 3 ½ years of parenting and two pregnancies, I have decided to make up my own mind and trust my own instinct. I am a mom that let's my kids watch TV sometimes so I can get some time to myself blogging or searching the internet, I feed them chocolate on toast for breakfast some days and I have learned that the term "survival of the fittest" was meant to apply directly to the parent-child relationship (unfortunately I am not sure who is outsmarting who)! I don't always make my kids excuse themselves from the table or clean-up their room after playing. I let them resolve battle out their fights on their own (for the most part) ... I know I am not perfect; my kids are certainly not- they are loud, a little too energetic and can demonstrate the perfect pint sized meltdown on cue! But we love each other; we dance and sing together almost every day. We have tickle wars, we talk all at the same time when we get excited and we hug and kiss a million times a day.

I yell (more than that I would like), and I can be selfish. But my kids are well adjusted, well mannered, social, independent and brilliant... so I am taking the reigns and bucking against the "should" of society… I will parent on my own terms AND take care of myself too. I will choose to step down from my high horse in preference of an average height horse. I will not judge the parents of the crying baby, the melt-down throwing toddler, the bratty child or the wild teenager, because I have either been there or will be there soon enough.

I am encouraging honesty about the highs and lows of parenting and hoping to create a more realistic version of parenting... not perfection, but "good enough" parenting.

Day 110

Evening in the park

I ain't afraid of no ghost & Day 106. 259 Days Left.

We hit a new phase.

Saturday evening, after we finished dinner; I asked Addison to pick up her toys and put them in her toy box. She threw a fit about wanting to put them else where, anywhere, “just not in my room!” Me thinking she was having a random drama-tantrum did what any wonderful mom would do; I screamed at the top of my lungs yelled “Addison go put your toys away now or I am going to put them in the trash." Which, of course, only prompted more screaming and crying.

I clear the table and go into her room, only to find her hiding behind her shoe cabinet, holding the toys. Something was wrong. I called in the hubby and we ask her what was going on and why she wouldn’t put her toys away. “The TV is spooky.” We ask what about the TV is spooky and she freaks out… “no, no, no! I am sorry it is not spooky.” I tell her if the TV is not spooky she can put her toys away. She ran over to the toy box, not taking her eyes off the TV, tossed the toys towards the box, ran away so quickly she tripped over other toys lying on the floor. She was hiding in the corner of the room crying. The hubby asked if she would rather us take the TV down. “NO!” Well now what in the hell do we do?

Trying to figure out exactly what was bothering her we attempt another round of questions. Addison, who has absolutely no problem saying what she wants, needs, likes, or doesn’t, would not tell us what was going on in that little toddler mind. We ask “is it the dark?” "NO!" (Addison has never been afraid of the dark. She doesn't even like a nightlight on. We wait until after she is sleeping before turning on the light), “Is it a movie bothering you?” "NO,NO! but you have to put a movie on now!" Maybe we are getting somewhere… “Is the TV spooky when there is a movie on?” "NO, just when the red light is on. When the red light is on the TV is spooky when the green light is on the movie is on and the TV is not spooky.” Seriously, could it be that our 3 ½ year old is smart enough to play this game? She knows how to get the TV on and stay on?

We are ready for bed. Their TV on. Baths finished. Room clean. Jackson in his crib. Addison crying about sleeping alone in her bed… here we go again. She wants to sleep with Jackson in his crib. We explained that there is not enough room for both her and Jackson. Insert another dram-tantrum. Now it is 11pm. I am tired, the hubby tired, Jackson tired, dogs tired, Addison is having a meltdown. She wins again. I toss her in the crib with Jackson, his must have pillow pet, her must have green pillow and her two dozen Toy Story friends which ”will help protect her from the spooky TV.” They slept in the crib together the entire night. Then again Sunday afternoon during nap time.
Not wanting her to get into the habit of "needing" to be a pain in the ass in the bed with Jackson; after their afternoon nap we went out and purchased Jackson his very own toddler bed. Let the fun begin!

After they each made a few trips to the livingroom and bounced on the beds for half hour; 11:30pm they were finally sleeping.
The hubby and I are pretty damn tired why aren’t they?

Beware the light sleeping mommy & Day 97. 268 Days Left.

There was an era, ages ago, when I could go to sleep and stay asleep through the night- undisturbed, unruffled, unpushed and my comforter stayed on me till I chose to toss it off in the morning... that day is long gone!

I am a tired mommy.

Pretty sure I have mentioned this once or twice before. I will go a step further... I am a light sleeper therefore I wake up a tired mommy.

The worst part- most nights it has absolutely nothing to do with the kids.

I do wake up occasionally to the rustling of the kids moving around their beds- we still sleep with the baby monitor. Some nights Jackson lets out a little cry but he ventures right back into dreamland. Addison will occasionally wake to go potty or from growing pains or to come into bed with us (we then have to lift her over the baby gate that blocks our bedroom door- this way our fabulous dog can’t pee on the carpet- his favorite night time hobby)… mostly the kids sleep straight through.

I am mostly sleep deprived because of the hubby, the pests pets and the fact I am a light sleeper, little noises wake me and I often have a difficult time returning to sleep.

At first, a big part of the problem was that the husband likes to snuggle to the point of chasing me across the bed. On more than one occasion, I woke up hanging off of the side of the bed and got up and moved to his vacant half so that I could get a little sleep.

Doesn’t seem like such a big deal but add the three cats and three dogs and on some nights, one or two toddlers- to the mix- not much room to move.

Then there is the snoring… have you ever heard the exaggerated snoring on cartoons? You know, that obnoxious snore that has resemblance to a chain saw? That’s how the husband and our Pug snore; I lye in-between the two while listening to snoring in both ears. Waking the hubby and telling him to roll over because he’s snoring used to work. Now he rolls over and still snores, and I don’t get to go back to sleep. After being awake listening to snoring for an hour I give the hubby a good kick light nudge to wake him. If he is irritated enough he will get up and go on the sofa… I yell to him “Take the pug with you!”

On those nights the hubby’s snoring is not the issue, I am plagued by thoughts from the day and worries of the next. And once awake, the animals seem to take the reigns. Cats using the litter boxes, stench of cat poop, scratching, fighting, pug snoring, animals licking themselves and taking up the bed.

Then there are the noises- car alarms, ice maker, babies rustling in their beds, noisy neighbors and the joys of condo living…

Finally, I fall back to sleep… the hubby’s alarm.

I am a light sleeper- the hubby is not.

On this particular night, mommy was tired.
I did not even hear Addison come to the gate so she could crawl in bed with us… oops. Hope she found the sofa to be comfortable.

I do wonder how long she was standing at our door before she gave up…

So here’s to all you other sleep-deprived mama’s, 'cause there's nothing more defeating than a fellow perky mom who's got it all together!

The teething night crawler & Day 94. 271 Days Left.

Neither of my kids have been particularly good when it came to teething…

I tried everything marketed for teething relief. Nothing seemed to ease their discomfort. Most of the teething products ended up in the trash or pushed to the back of an already overflowing drawer. Addison was far worse than Jackson. I could not even giver her Tylenol or Orajel; she would vomit the moment it hit her mouth.

However, nothing comapred to the molars.

They morphed into something that crawled out of the latest horror novel…

The past few days, with Jackson, have been rather difficult; missed afternoon naps, late nights with frequent wake-ups and even earlier mornings. He has a horrible diaper rash which, for him, is not normal. We were fortunate enough that neither Addison nor Jackson really had problems with diaper rashes- until teething; mostly molars.

He is miserable. Clingy. Cranky. Tired.

We tried Tylenol- not helping. He just wants to be comforted and held. He does not want to leave our arms. If I put him down he runs to daddy crying, arms stretched, waiting to be picked up. He whines and moans and cries and throws himself on the ground. All. Day.

Not fun for anyone. Especially our little guy.

Last night, by far, the worst. It went a little something like this…

8:00pm: After their bath, we put a very cranky Jackson in his crib and Addison in her toddler bed. An hour later he climbs out of the crib, crying.

9:01pm: Put him back in the crib with a sippy cup of milk. More crying. More milk.

10:30pm: He finally feel asleep.

2:46am: Jackson wakes crying. Addison comes running out of the room. Take Addison potty. Change Jackson. Crib. More milk. Put Toy Story on for the one millionth time. Addison falls back to sleep. Jackson fusses.

4:00am: Jackson is sleeping. The hubby's alarm goes off for work.

5:00am: I hear the door shut- hubby left.

6:00am: Pug wakes me- she was snoring.

6:15am: I go sleep on the couch.

7:00am: Addison comes running out “it is wake up time mommy! Take me potty.”

7:30am: Jackson wakes. Crying.

One down. Three more to go.

I just want my happy little man back.

Day 94

Jackson and the words "yea" or "weeee" while in another room- NEVER a good sign... at least I have not mopped the floors and I caught the mess before he really got into what he was doing. Needless to say the frig is now Jackson proofed.

One of those days & Day 92. 273 Days Left.

Yesterday was one of those days where the night before I didn’t get much sleep, and all I could do was just be.

One of those days I knew I was not going to get much done and what I did decide to do, got done wrong. Coffee spilt all over the counter, in-between the oven and cabinets, on the floor. The kids breakfast, banana nut muffins, were accidently made sugar and egg free. How do you skip an entire step? Especially with a recipe you make a couple times a month? You know, one of those days, while yelling at three dogs, three cats and two toddlers, you accidently load the dishwasher with Super Miracle Bubbles.

One of those days my trouble seeking little guy and his curiosity irritates me a little quicker than normal. And I was slightly less resilient to my ornery three year old and her incessant demands.

One of those days when in a flurry for food the pug ran into my leg; “stupid dog”. Her protruding eye, she has glaucoma, began to leak fluid. I panicked. I ran around the house praying it was not serious.

One of those days I could not wait for naptime and even more so, bedtime.

One of those days the hubby was home early from work, woke the kids from their naps and all normal conversation turned into an argument… “Do we really have to have this conversation again? How many times do I have to repeat my self?”

One of those days I was exhausted and not looking forward to workout plans with a friend.

Something had to be done to get me out of the funk. I was determined.

Yesterday quickly became one of those days…

I discovered the kid’s would devourer sugar-free muffins.
Thankfully they were eatable.

The hubby and I grabbed the kids and cuddled up on the couch watching Toy Story.

I spent a little extra time with the Pug, petting her, cuddling with her, talking to her, tending to her eye.

Jackson and I played peek-a-boo under the covers of my bed.

The hubby, kids and I were able to have lunch together.

I went and bought a new pair of sneakers, to get pumped, for my first workout with a friend. What an amazing workout it was and I look forward to today’s. After all, you are only as good as you feel.

By the end of the day, yesterday was a really good day.

Things are NOT what they SEEM & Day 65. 300 Days Left.

A friend and I were having a conversation; she was in the midst of dealing with her 20 month old son’s tantrum, “girl, I don’t know how you do it with two toddlers… you always seem to have it altogether.”

Yes, my friend, SEEM.

I do not, in fact, have it altogether. Most days are just the opposite. A mess.

Today, I do not have a voice. Probably because I spent yesterday screaming at a Walgreen's photo clerk along with my rowdy children; getting absolutely no where with any of them, followed by 12am and 2:30am screaming battles with Addison over bedtime.

No voice. How am I supposed to yell at them today?

The trick: I do not let people see my chaos so it seems as though I have everything under control.

Lets be honest, I am out numbered, defeated and outright exhausted.

The not so perfect and oh so tired. & Day 62. 303 Days Left.

The problem I see with a lot of Facebook posts and an overwhelming majority of blogs is this: People only ever talk about the 1% of things that are perfection. Perfect pictures, edited as such, perfect posts about a perfect meal (not mentioning the fact that you’d fed your kids cereal for breakfast, snacks for lunch and leftovers for dinner the five days up to leading that), how positive and perfect you're feeling, turning illness into a great learning opportunity, talking about how great your kids are when we all know they're driving you up the wall more often than not, the highlights of a trip that leave out the fact you have to stop at every other rest stop for a pee “non-pee” break, the fact that your one year old vomited all over the car seat & himself while in protest to the length of the drive, the screaming over who gets to watch what DVD and the never ending “are we there yet” from a three year old.

Typically, I try to be honest in my posting. I’d hate to make someone feel bad by getting a less than realistic view of my life and think I’m anything close to perfect. I’m not.

Yes, like others, I do have good days, some really good days and the occasional “wow, my kids are really great and made this day easy” days. And yes, I do post about those days. But for the most part my days, as a stay at home mom, are about same.

With that being said, I Am Tired.

Exhausted really.

Correction, Fucking Exhausted.

I am tired because I basically have not slept in four years. Yes, Addison is three but I do count the 10 months I spent incubating her. She gets up every night to pee, and although it is nice that I do not wake up to a wet bed, most mornings, it would be even lovelier if she just went in on her own and went back to bed, instead of waking me up and requiring a chaperon for what is definitely a one-person job. When she is not waking to pee, she is coming into our bed complaining screaming about her legs, feet and knees hurting. I understand growing pains are excruciating but this goes on for two hours. The entire time I pray she does not wake Jackson. On the nights she is not waking, Jackson takes over. Teething. Diaper changes. Something. Always something.

Before you anti-complaining, sugar-coating mommies mention it- I am fully aware these are the responsibilities I signed up for when becoming a mother. I get it. None the less, the thought, most days, does not make my job any easier…

I am tired because, as usual, Addison was literally in. my. face at 7am asking when I was going to make breakfast, cause she's "really, really hungry." Probably because she barely ate her dinner do to the fact she "wanted peanut butter and jelly” for the one millionth time.

I am tired because, all before 8:00 am this morning, I made three meals for two children (two for Jackson because the first he threw to the dogs), each with its own variation, each with a different beverage, and each with a lot of whining. I cleaned up vomit of various types, cat, dog and Jackson’s. I had to wash and change a crib because Jackson vomited all over it and himself. I unloaded a dishwasher and loaded the breakfast dishes.

I am tired because my kids fight every second of every day. They fight over everything. And Nothing. At the same time. They are currently in two different rooms watching two different movies. It's bad parenting, but it affords me peace.

I am tired because it is a battle to get my kids to eat. Anything. So I offer Addison chocolate milk and Jackson a bottle so they feel somewhat full. Obviously not going for mother of the year. I choose my battles.

But, despite all of this, it is safe to say that I am not nearly as tired as Jackson.
Who would not be falling asleep during lunch had he taken a nap when I put him down.

Tolerance and Children

These days I find that I have very little patience if any. My tolerance for people, other than my husband and children, is zero.

The problem is I don’t mind telling people what I think of their stupidity…

So to you, the douche bag texting while driving next to me and my precious babies. I had no problem rolling down my window to tell you: You are a fucking asshole and I hope you run your car up the curb and hit a pole (of course injuring no one).

To you, the guy in Starbucks that decided to walk in front of me after I had been waiting 15 minutes for a Latte ,with a toddler impatiently waiting for her blueberry muffin while holding my now fussing 11 month old. I had no problem asking you: What am I invisible to you? His response: Oh, sorry, I did not see you there. Me: I guess I am invisible; kind of surprising being that I have a toddler yanking on my skirt and a fussing baby hanging off my hip.
Him: Here let me buy your coffee.
Me: Damn right… as I grab my latte and Addison’s muffin and we head out the door.

To you, the teenager who cut me off; nice to see you at the red light. I had no problem rolling down my window to tell you: You are a fucking moron and I am sure your mother would be so proud.

And finally, to you cashier at Target; who forgot to ring up half my stuff before totaling, then needing a manager to override and having the nerve to blame me. I had no problem telling you: Learn how to do your fucking job; it’s not rocket science.

Maybe it is because I worked in a restaurant for 12 years and had to deal with idiots all day (especially over the phone) or maybe it is because I have to reserve what little patience I have left for my children.

So, if you ever happen to run into me and piss me off, you can be assured I am going to tell you that you’re a jerk and it will most definitely be in a not so polite way.

Selfish Me

I am selfish.
Yes, the above statement is very true.

I have no reason to be. After all, I am the oldest of three. I have had to share almost everything my entire life. Perhaps that is why.

Last night I went to bed late; by late I mean 1am. My husband falls asleep with in seconds of lying down- I hate him for this. I however, toss & turn, watch TV, replay my day and sometimes worry about the next. The last time I looked at the clock was 1am.

I was up late because we are (correction I am) driving to Ocala tonight to see my bestie, her hubby and their little baby boy. The hubby, kids and I are visiting them for the weekend. I was up packing and getting things together in preparation for our weekend trip. My goal is when the hubby gets home from work this evening; we leave.

I was hoping to get some sleep knowing I would be up with Jackson at 6:30am and not able to nap. I wanted to be rested for the four hour drive I am going to have make.

This is how last night played out:

Addison woke at 1:30am. Shit. I put her in bed with us.

After fighting to get her to sleep in the middle of the bed rather than on mommy’s side, it was 2am. Finally some sleep.

Jackson wakes at 4am. I yell; “goddamnit". No one moves…I wake my husband (who has to get up for work at 5:30am) and say “you need to get him.” Yes, I realize this was selfish but I was tired and I will be the one driving not him; he will be the one sleeping. I wanted sleep.

He tends to Jackson; warms him a bottle and brings him in bed with us. Jackson throws-up all over our bed. FUCK! I chase them both out of the room and clean the bed as much as I can without disturbing the quietly sleeping toddler that lays in the middle.

I peacefully go back to sleep. Selfish? Yes; I know. I wanted sleep.

6:15am Jackson is back in bed with Addison and me. The hubby has left for work.

6:30am Jackson is awake and ready to play. FANTASTIC! (sense my sarcasm)

7am I call the hubby to bitch. Complaining about how I was up all night.
Complaining about not being able to nap today. Complaining about being the one who will be up driving tonight. I end the conversation with “sounds like fun?”. (sense more sarcasm)

His response is “Yup”.

“Yup?! Oh really yup? You ass”... as I hang up the phone.

Yup is such a lazy, uncompassionate word. I hate the word yup.

Perhaps he will be the one driving; being that I am so selfish…

My Damn Mondays

Once upon a time I worked and like most people I hated Mondays. For some reason Murphy’s Law always applied to Mondays…anything that could go wrong- would!

Once I stopped working I figured I could kiss those dreaded Mondays & Murphy and his stupid law goodbye…forever! Boy was I wrong.

Yes, we stay-at-home moms have those damn Monday’s too. They are not dreaded but some days they sure are long. It seems as though both kids take Monday to wind-down from the weekend. They suck every little bit of energy out of me leaving nothing behind…no amount of coffee even helps.
It is like they are still all hopped up from the activities of the weekend (we stay pretty active the entire weekend).

Monday morning Addison likes to test her boundaries to see what will apply for the week; her biggest target, her baby brother Jackson! I swear an hour into the day my voice is gone, time-outs & the word NO are played out and toys are put on shelves out of reach… they don’t care. To them, on Monday, mommy is fair game!

It is not until the end of the night that I truly realize how different my Mondays are from the “working world”…

I have the privilege of being home with my two beautiful children. I am teaching them. I am watching them grow & learn. I get to see each milestone along the way (I get to witness them first). I get to cheer and dance and be silly for them, they are admiring me.

It is the moment when they are unwinding for the night, when my son climbs into his sister’s Tinkerbell bed to drink his bottle and watch a movie with her and when I am watching my daughter sleep, while singing lullabies into my son’s ear and dancing him to sleep, that I realize my Monday’s are truly special days no matter how stressful they may seem.

My damn Mondays are one of my favorite days…

Surviving Motherhood

100 ways you know you are a mom...

#1: you look in the mirror and no longer recoginze the person staring back at you. Really hit me after my second was born... My thought: "Holy Shit, I am a mother to two little beings!"

#2: you can read Dinosaur vs. Bedtime or The Very Hungry Caterpillar without having to open the book.

#3: you are always prepared. If someone needs a bandage, you have one. If someone needs crayons or a pen, you’ve got one. If someone needs a snack or juice, you’ve have both. Mainly because you leave your house with everything but the furniture.

#4: you can't find your cell phone, so you ask a friend to call you, and you run around the house madly, following the sound until you locate the phone inside your toddler's ride on Tonka truck.

#5: you say at least once a day, "I'm not cut out for this job", but you know you wouldn't trade it for anything.

#6: you have a difficult time giving away newborn clothes because it is so final.

#7: when looking for the restroom you ask "where is the potty?"

#8: when cleaning, doing the dishes, doing the laundry and vacuuming are considered “breaks”...”here honey the kids are all yours."

#13: when going to the bathroom or taking a shower alone gets you excited.

#14: Fantasies: Mothers of one: Some quiet time with the hubby. Mothers of two: a nice hotel- ALONE- so we can enjoy a meal ALONE, sitting down & WITHOUT sharing, enjoy some quiet and sleep-ALONE.
Mothers of three+: well I would only imagine, somedays, you have yourselves lost in the Bermuda Triangle somewhere.

#26: your grocery lists are written on construction paper with crayons! “Yes, I see you looking at my list and laughing.”

#27: You know you have TRULY embraced motherhood when during naptimes you tip-toe around, go to the other side of the house to use the bathroom, turn off ALL the lights & TV's, sit quietly on the sofa in the dark to not make any noise- GOD knows you do not want to wake the beasts!

#28: You find yourself wiping a booger out of another baby’s nose. Must be impulse… Brody, Aunt Melissa loves you that much.

#31: you come up with brilliant creative ideas that will help make your life easier, you wonder why has no one thought of this and only wished you had enough energy & time to market your idea!…for instance- we need swimsuits for toddlers with snap buttons because having to pull down a swimsuit for a potty training 2 ½ year old every 15-20 minutes is just not that fun.

#41: you understand what “because I said so” means.

#42: you know you are a mommy by your multi-tasking skills-you have the baby propped on your hip while on the phone and making a baby bottle ,talking to your toddler, making a sippy cup & lunch for her and taking bites of whatever meal you have missed… how do you like that daddies?!

It will always be opened first without paying until the end- a slight smile is given as I pass other mommies and see their quiet children contently chopping on or playing with that magic goodie.

#46: you find yourself making the hubby those Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes on the weekends.

#47: you make sure each child has the same snack and the same amount because trust me a 2 ½ year old does care if her 9 month old brother has more than her.

#48: you can convert a single stroller into a double. Carrying around a toddler who thinks she wants to walk for three hours- I don’t think so.

#49: you would rather spend your free evening trashing the nursery by dragging out every toy, spilling juice & snacks all over the floor, coloring the balcony with chalk-then walking in it-only to come inside and see how many chalk footprints you can make, coloring on the wall & floor, smashing cereal into the carpet and pulling all the pillows off of the sofa and beds- just so your kids can take it easy tomorrow.

#58: shaving your legs is reserved for your anniversary only.

#59: it comes to date night- you make the plans, get all dressed up and drop the kids off at Pop-pop & Gradd'a house just to call and check in on the kids every 20-30 minutes!

#60: life with toddlers- every day is like a new mysterious treasure hunt… one morning I wake up with a sticker attached to my leg, the following night a marker in the bed and someimes will find the remote in the diaper bag… and I can’t help but smile.

#61: you have accepted that yelling, being that you do it most of the day, has become your preferred method of conversation.

#65: you realize your gag- reflex is gone. afterall, by this point you have been pooped, peed and thrown-up on sometimes all three simultaneously.

#75: you call your mom and apologize for everything you ever broke or destroyed and for any temper-tantrums or meltdowns you had as a child! I can only imagine how long I will be apologizing when Addison is a teenager- ouch!

#76: you start negotiating with & bribing your toddler to avoid that pint sized temper-tantrum.

#77: you allow your toddler to dip everything in condiments just so they will eat. “Yes Addison you may have ketchup with your peas and pork chop” what tomatoes are a vegetable right?!

Am I missing any?

#82: you have accepted that your sofa and carpets will be forever covered in the following…crayons, markers, food, milk, juice, formula, play-doh, spit-up and diaper leakage… so who is coming over and who would like to have a seat?

#83: telling white lies has become a specialty… "We will come back later" or “No Addison, I am sorry the batteries are broken” that one is my favorite because I just can not listen to that toy for another minute.

#84: you really don't sweat the small stuff... because you know the small stuff is only leading up to the BIG stuff.

#85: you truly understand the meaning of unconditional love.

#86: you no longer not only wish the world for your children but the entire UNIVERSE.

#87: you wake up with an aching back thinking “Wow, these two little things really do take up a lot of space”…my bed dips down on both sides-it’s like a hill from the kids sleeping in the middle and the hubby and I hanging off the sides- but I would not trade it for the world.

#95: you try to teach your toddler a new take on Hide-go-Seek… today we are playing “who can hide the longest”

#96: taking a shower becomes a chore. Perfect example: talking to a girlfriend while our girls are playing- Jackson spits juice all down my shirt- "You know I just took a shower this morning. This is why I usually don't bother because within two minutes of being dressed someone spits-up, gets sick, spills food, formula or juice or any number of other things on mommy. But hey, I made it four hours so I guess it was worth it today."
